Links to e-Texts

The Internet has become a great source for researchers and readers interested in public domain and hard-to-find books -- fiction, non-fiction, and any oddball thing that doesn't quite fit those two rather inclusive categories. Here, we'll provide some links that are of interest to the pulp fan.

Black Mask Online
Using the name of the great pulp magazine that introduced the hard-boiled idiom along with Race Williams, Sam Spade, the Continental Op, and more, this site features a great selection of pulp-based reading material.

PulpGen Site
Larry Estep's great site features fresh downloads each week -- great reading from across the entire range of pulp genres!

The Online Books Page
This site is maintained by the University of Pennsylvania. If a book is available as an extext online, this is the place to start looking. You can search by author, title, subject, and even by serial title.

Harold Lamb stories
This site offers a small handful of Lamb stories for reading online. The selection represents several decades of the writer's career, and various magazines with which he placed stories as well. You'll also find some photos of Lamb at this site.

George F. Worts article
"Adventures of a Wireless Free-Lance," from the June 1924 issue of Radio Broadcast, tells a true story from Worts' career as a ship telegrapher. It is as thrilling as any fiction you might find in the pulps. With such experiences behind him, there's little wonder he could write the sort of exciting stories about Peter the Brazen, Gillian Hazeltine, and Singapore Sammy.
