Lemuel Lawrence De Bra was reputed to be former U.S. Secret Service Agent working for the IRS tracking down opium smugglers in San Francisco's Chinatown, the setting for scores of adventure and mystery stories. May also have been a former Pinkerton Op. The order of these pursuits is not known. All other details of his life are a complete mystery.
